Pre & Post Wax Care
Get the Most From Every Appointment
At R Waxing, smooth, healthy skin doesn't start and end in the treatment room. What you do before and after your appointment matters — and we're here to help with both. From pre-wax tips to an esthetician-curated collection of waxing aftercare products, we've made it easy to protect and extend your results between visits.
Pre-Wax Care: Before Your Appointment
A little pre-wax preparation goes a long way. Follow these steps before your waxing service for the best possible results:
Let hair grow to at least ¼ inch (about the size of a grain of rice) so the wax can grip properly.
Exfoliate gently 24–48 hours before your appointment to clear away dead skin. Our Bushbalm Sweet Escape Exfoliating Scrub is a great option.
Arrive with clean, dry skin — no makeup, moisturizers, oils, or deodorant on the area being waxed.
Avoid AHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other active skincare ingredients for at least 5–7 days before a facial waxing service. We do not recommend waxing services if you’ve previously used retinols (like Tretinoin) — threading is a much gentler alternative.
Skip tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure in the 24–48 hours before your visit.
Have any skin sensitivities like eczema, psoriasis, or acne that can damage your skin barrier? Let your esthetician know at the start of your appointment and we'll tailor the service accordingly.
Post-Wax Care: After Your Appointment
Freshly waxed skin needs a little extra post-wax care. For the first 24–48 hours:
Wait 2-3 days before resuming any harsh products like exfoliants, including active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and AHAs. Avoid retinols.
Avoid tight clothing, heat, and sweat — skip the gym, sauna, and hot tub.
Stay out of direct sun and hold off on self-tanner or spray tans.
Skip heavy moisturizers and fragrance that may have irritating ingredients in them.
Don't shave between appointments — it disrupts the hair growth cycle and reverses your progress.
Try to avoid scratching or any rough physical contact on freshly treated skin for up to 3 days to avoid any contamination.
After 48 hours, begin gentle exfoliation 2–3 times per week to keep ingrown hairs at bay, and moisturize daily to maintain soft, healthy skin.
